Staff Sgt. Lisa Affuso is a base services journeyman. She has served with the 167th Airlift Wing for nearly four years.

Prior to joining the 167th AW, Affuso served in the Army for 10 years.

As a services journeyman, Affuso is part of a multi-faceted career field with wide ranging responsibilities. It’s also a contingency related career filed and its personnel often participate in recovery operations for natural and man-made disasters.

“The services career field is broken down into six core areas: food service, lodging, fitness and sports, readiness, mortuary and protocol,” she said.

Affuso is a valuable member of the services team, according to Master Sgt. Larissa Caldwell, the 167th AW’s services superintendent.

“SSgt Affuso's motivation, work ethic, and natural leadership abilities, inspire confidence, growth, and development in those around her,” Caldwell said. “She embodies the definition of Airmanship, she is an exceptional NCO and an outstanding role model for her subordinates and peers alike.

Affuso has a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and teaches kindergarten in Frederick County, Va.

She plans to pursue an Advanced Master of Arts in Elementary Education starting next spring.

She is planning to retire from the military in six years.

“In the meantime, I plan to take advantage of every training opportunity afforded me,” she said.

Affuso said the most rewarding part of her military career is serving the community.
