Remedial Investigation fieldwork underway at 167th AW
Rock Water Drilling company uses a geoprobe machine to collect soil borings as part of a remedial investigation for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) at the 167th Airlift Wing, Shepherd Field, Martinsburg, West Virginia, Nov. 15, 2022. The borings are classified by geologists and samples are collected for further lab testing. The remedial investigation is part of a long-term study to determine the extent of PFAS in the ground at the base. The PFAS contamination has been attributed to the use of aqueous film forming foam previously used to fight fuel fires. (U.S. Air National Guard photos by Airman James DeCicco)
