Building international partnerships

Col. David Cochran, 167th Airlift Wing commander, meets with Col. Hamed Al-Gahtani, deputy commander for the Qatari Emiri Air Force Airlift Wing, Jan. 30, 2019, in Al Udied, Qatar. Cochran was attending the U.S. Central Command Security Cooperation Round Table event and met with the colonel prior to an upcoming West Virginia/Qatar State Partnership Program meeting. The West Virginia National Guard began the partnership with Qatar in April 2018. Through the partnership, the WVNG seeks to increase military and diplomatic cooperation, develop and expand defense capabilities and mutually beneficial training interactions. “The 167th AW is excited about the partnership and looks forward to growing the relationship with the QEAF,” Cochran said.

Maintainers keep aircraft ready despite extreme cold

167AW Firefighters express gratitude to Home Depot employees

Lt. Col. John Poland, 167th Civil Engineering Squadron commander, and members of the 167th Fire Department presented a flag, certificate, unit patch and unit coins to Linda Marr, Jessica Wine, Jackie Thomas and Matt Brannon from the Hagerstown Home Depot Transportation Division, Jan. 5, 2019 at the 167th Airlift Wing, Martinsburg, W.Va. The gifts were presented in appreciation of the multiple care packages sent by the Hagerstown Home Depot employees during the 167th Fire Department’s deployment to Southwest Asia in 2018. The event at Rosedale Cemetary coincided with the wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetary, as well as more than 1,400 locations in all 50 states. Airman support Christmas gift drive, Ops Adopts

More than 20 Airmen help wrap donated gifts in the 167th Airlift Wing’s operations building as part of the 167th Operations Group program, Ops Adopts, a Christmas gift drive, Dec. 14, 2018. Ops Adopts, headed up by 167AW pilot, Capt. Ryan Day, helps local families provide Christmas gifts for their children. This year gifts were provided for 76 children from 34 families at 5 local schools. Gifts included clothing items and toys for each child. Ops Adopts also donated 42 turkeys at Thanksgiving. Wing partners with Argos and USDA to study black vultures

A C-17 Globemaster III aircraft assigned to the 167th Airlift Wing flies above a group of vultures soaring in thermals over Argos Cement Plant in Martinsburg, W.Va., Nov. 8, 2018. The black vultures have been roosting at the plant for more than a year posing a threat to local aviation.
